Farmers Only

Niche dating sites crop up all the time. Now, one that launched to cater to the kind of people who grow crops—FarmersOnly.com—has reached a milestone. Jerry Miller, a marketing executive who founded the site in 2005 after a divorced farm owner complained to him about a lack of like-minded people in her dating pool, says it has more than 200,000 subscribers. Jun 11, 2021 The only app available for Farmers Only is through the GooglePlay Store. The Android app has 500 reviews and an average rating of 3/5 stars, but the most popular star rating is 1 star. Recurring complaints of the FarmersOnly Dating app include: Horrible interface and design. Expensive to set up a premium account.

FarmersOnly is an online dating service designed specifically for farmers, ranchers, and people who live in rural areas.

Its purpose is to bring together individuals who hold traditional values but find it hard to meet new people due to their locations and work schedules.

The catchphrase “City folks just don’t get it” lets visitors know what this website is all about right from the start.

While reading the presentation of the service, the visitor might be under the impression that FarmersOnly.com only welcomes straight, Christian farmers and small city dwellers.

The presentation focuses on these aspects, so some visitors might feel like they don’t meet the “requirements”. But that’s not the case as all.

FarmersOnly.com is not in any way restrictive. Anyone is free to join, no matter what is their location, profession, religion or sexual orientation. The only real requirement is a love for nature and animals.

After figuring this out, any visitor would come to the conclusion that FarmersOnly.com is the perfect place to meet people who enjoy or are interested in a traditional, simple way of life, free of the stress and noise of large cities. Unfortunately, they’d be wrong, because of this website in not in any way different from other dating services.

    • 1.2 What are the pros?

This website was launched in 2005 and is owned by FarmersOnly Media, a company based in New York. It claims to have over 2 million users, all of them sharing the same traditional values.

FarmersOnly also claims to be responsible for one wedding a week on average. Many success stories are available in a dedicated section of the website.

Only

And at first glance, FarmersOnly really does seem like a great place to start looking for a life partner. The website has many interesting features, some of them available for free.

It would seem that visitors can sign up and try the service completely free of charge, only committing to a paid subscription when they’re sure it can work for them. But it’s not that easy.

How does FarmersOnly work?

Visitors don’t have access to any of the features of the website. They’re not able to browse profiles, so they pretty much have to assume that signing up is worth it. And the process is easy enough.

All that the visitor has to do in order to create an account is enter their email address, age, gender, and the gender of the people they would like to meet.

The website will generate a username and a password, and the visitor will receive both in an email. And they’ll be able to change their username at any time.

After this step the visitor can start browsing profiles, and of course, to edit their own profile. The website recommends members to upload clear pictures and to offer a detailed description of themselves.

And of course, to mention exactly what they’re looking for in a partner. But it’s not mandatory, so members don’t have to finish their profiles before starting to look for matches. And the other members will be able to see their profiles also.

If the new member discovers profiles that they like, they can send “flirts”. These are short, introductory messages that are not customizable. At the same time, the other members will be able to send them flirts and personalized messages. And here is where it gets complicated.

While the new member can receive flirts and messages, they can’t open and read them. They’ll be able to see how many people are interested in them (assuming that each flirt or message comes from a different person), but that’s pretty much all they can do on the website. In other words, free members have no way of communicating with the other members.

But visitors won’t be aware of this because the Q&A section doesn’t offer the full details. It mentions that free members can’t read messages, but not that they’re also unable to see flirts. And the only way to gain access to them is by upgrading to the Premium membership.

The Premium membership will cost the member around $20 a month, but again, visitors have no way of knowing it. The price of the subscription only becomes available after signing up for a free membership.

Despite the fact that the Q&A section does mention that longer subscriptions come with significant discounts.

There’s a 30% discount (from the monthly price) for a 3-month subscription and a 50% discount for a 6-month subscription, but no mention of the price itself.

The subscriptions renew automatically regardless of their length, and thankfully, the website does mention it to visitors.

Farmersonly

The member can unsubscribe at any time, but they must keep in mind that all payments are non-refundable. The company does issue refunds, but only in very specific circumstances that are not clarified on the website.

The paid subscription allows members to interact freely. Once the member chooses and pays for a Standard membership, they’ll be able to read and answer all their old flirts and messages. But what happens if some of the flirts come from free members?

Farmersonly Free Browsing

Well, all that the paying member can do is reply to them and hope that the free members upgrade their subscriptions. Unless they’re willing to pay a little extra for the Gold Status.

The Gold Status is available for $9.99 a month, and just like the Premium subscription, it renews automatically. It’s not a membership option but an upgrade to the Premium membership, so it’s only available for paying members.

And through this upgrade, paying members can send messages that even free members can read. All their messages will be marked in gold for the receivers, who will be able to read them regardless of their status.

But while the company mentions that free members can read and answer these messages, it doesn’t specify how. It would be easy to assume that free members can just reply to these messages as if they’re paying members.

But that would mean that they can communicate freely with at least a number of members, and it’s likely that FarmersOnly doesn’t allow it. It’s safe to assume that free members can only reply by sending flirts, which doesn’t really count as conversation.

Flirts are not customizable, so again, free members will have to upgrade their subscriptions. Paying members who have subscribed for Gold status can give up the upgrade at any time. They can also give up the subscription and keep the upgrade if they choose so.

Another feature that is only available for the paying members is the FarmPhone. It’s available for $4.95 a month, but the subscription doesn’t renew automatically.

FarmPhone allows members to text each other though “fake” numbers allocated by the service. It’s like regular texting, except members don’t have access to the real phone numbers.

Members who don’t have the service can receive texts too, as the service converts them into messages which available for reading online. Also, they’ll be able to reply to these messages as the service will convert the replies into texts.

The company doesn’t mention if the free members can receive these texts. It’s likely that they can, but without being able to read them. Another option that is not available for free members is the ability to block other members. Also, free members are unable to see when other members have been online.

What are the pros?

FarmersOnly has an impressive number of positive reviews from people who are willing to share their success stories. And we can assume that at least some of them are true. We have to say “at least” because the vast majority are oddly similar.

Farmersonly Media Inc

It seems that somehow all the couples who meet through this website are eager to marry after dating for a very short while.

There are no stories about people who are in happy relationships with no plans to get married, or happy relationships that have failed after a while, or just bad relationships.

Most positive reviews start with something in the lines of “I’ve met my husband on FarmersOnly” and it’s suspicious, to say the least.

Regardless, some of the stories must be true. FarmersOnly is a dating website like any other, so of course, it will make some of its users very happy. Still, members shouldn’t have high expectations.

What are the cons?

This website doesn’t have any control over the users. The company claims that users who post or send offensive content will be banned.

Photos must receive approval before being available for the other members, and the same is the case for any information posted by the members on their profiles. But at the same time, the company states “we are not the police” a number of times in the Q&A section.

And it goes into further detail by mentioning that a complaint won’t be enough to have a user removed from the website.

And most disturbingly, that it will only take into consideration complaints that are accompanied by police reports.

In other words, that a member has to assault another member in order for the company to start wondering if they’re a threat. And of course, FarmersOnly doesn’t perform background checks or profile verification.

This is completely unacceptable. FarmersOnly is a paid service, and users don’t receive any protection while on the website. And naturally, this causes many problems.

Many members complain about offensive or downright insulting messages, stalking, catfishing (fake profiles), scammers and many other similar issues. Which is exactly what one should expect from a website that doesn’t exercise any kind of control over the users.

Lastly, many users complain about receiving “empty” flirts before upgrading to the paid membership. They claim that the website generates fake messages in order to attract paying members.

This may or may not be true, but regardless, the situation causes members to feel misled. Which explains why despite half of the reviews being very positive, the other half come from people who are extremely unhappy with the service.

Bottom line

Farmers

FarmersOnly.com charges an expensive membership fee but it doesn’t guarantee a decent online experience.

Of course, like any other online dating service, it can help some of its users find exactly whom they’re looking for. But its drawbacks seem to outweigh the benefits, so we wouldn’t recommend it.

Farmers Only is an online dating site for people looking to meet someone in rural areas. Most members come from the country, but some city folk are looking to meet someone outside of the city. Still, the tagline was one that caught my eye: “City folks just don’t get it”.

I reviewed this site to help you decide whether it’s right for you or not. Ultimately, of course, it’s your decision, but I’ve provided the most important points. This in-depth Farmers Only review looks at the process of signing up, creating a profile, contacting other members, and the difference between a free membership and a paid one.

  • An option to text message other members securely
  • A simple and straightforward sign-up process
  • Action taken to ensure that members are genuine
  • A broad age range and a nice balance of men and women
  • A niche market, so it’s easier to find a certain type of person
  • No formal matching algorithm
  • Communication can only take place between two paid members
  • The dated appearance could do with a makeover

Farmers Only has been a player in online dating circles since 2005, so it’s certainly had time to grow. Because of that, many people on the site look for all kinds of relationships, which makes it easier for a new member to find a match.

Most members on the site are from the United States. With the user-friendly search feature, it’s easy to filter the results to show members in specific locations. Another option is to filter your search to show only members with compatible interests. The site itself might look like it could do with an update, but its easy navigation is great for taking advantage of the available features.

Sign Up Process

4.0/5

When I registered on the site, the only details I needed to provide were my name, email, age, zip code, and preference for who I’m looking for. Once a member, these details can be changed. Just bear in mind that you can only change your username once, so make sure to choose one you are happy with. I usually like to keep things simple and I chose one similar to my name. You can change your password as many times as you want.

I also had the opportunity to sync my account with Facebook. By doing that, I could add photos from my Facebook account to Farmers Only. I haven’t done that yet, as I generally like to keep my social media photos separate from those I use on dating sites. Once I uploaded a photo, I was instantly taken to a page showing me online members. That gave me a nice preview of what else I could expect to find inside the member’s area.

Contacting People

3.5/5

As a free member, I couldn’t communicate with others on the site. This was disappointing, if not unusual. I would need to upgrade my account to get in touch with other premium members. This is the most compelling reason to upgrade.

There is no in-depth matching algorithm here. The best way to meet people on the site is to search and get in touch with those who appear to have matching interests and are generally the kind of person you’re looking for. But again, you need to upgrade to have an actual conversation.

Profile

5.0/5

If I upgrade my account at some point, I could upload as many photos as I want. That would save me time, as I wouldn’t have to bother deleting existing photos to make way for any new ones I’d like to add.

Still, even with a basic profile, I could include a lot of information that could help other members decide whether I’m a potential match for them or not. I could put all the basic information in my profile, and a long description about me and the kind of person I’m looking for.

I was given the opportunity to hide my profile. This would allow me to take a break from the site for a day and keep my profile hidden from other people’s searches. You can do this as many times as you wish. It’s a nice option, but it’s probably more applicable to the most attractive women on the site who might be looking for a break from a bombardment of messages.

Mobile App

Only
3.5/5

While there’s no mobile app for iOS users, you’re in luck if you’re an Android user, as there’s a Farmers Only app just for you. I’ve tried it and it isn’t the best app in the world. However, I’ve found myself starting to use it more while on the move lately, when I felt like browsing some of the newest profiles.

Membership Options

5.0/5

With a free account, I was able to create my profile, browse other members, view their photos, and send flirts. But to make the most out of the site, I’d need to upgrade. That’s mainly because there are many great profiles here that I feel are compatible, and I’d like to get in touch with these members. There are other benefits, too, such as the ability to view any Flirts I’ve received, see when a member has logged in last, and post more photos. At $21.95 USD for a one-month membership, it’s not an earth-shattering commitment. However, it’s only $10.99 per month if I commit to six months. What’s interesting about this site is that it offers a third membership tier. For an additional $9.95 per month, premium members can upgrade to a Gold Status membership. This would highlight my messages in gold when they reach another member’s inbox. That makes upgrading sound even more appealing to me.

I know from a friend who signed up that transactions are discreet on credit card statements, only showing “FarmersOnly Media Inc”, as opposed to any mention of the word “dating”. It also looks easy to cancel, should I no longer feel the need to use the service. If I pay by PayPal, I could cancel by logging in to my PayPal account and following the instructions there. If I pay by credit card, I could cancel directly through the Farmers Only website. I could cancel anytime I wish.

After reviewing this site, I found that while the design is somewhat old-fashioned, it’s also easy to use, which is more important to me personally. Once I signed up and had reached the main page, I could easily access the features, allowing me to make my way around the site.

It isn’t difficult to find interesting-looking profiles, thanks to the millions of members on board. While the focus here is on dating, there are also those looking for friendship or casual relationships.

I found the best way to uncover matches is to use the search function combined with the filtering options to find those with similar interests. Most people on the site are from rural areas, but as the member pool is so diverse, other people are looking for members of those areas to date.

In addition to the dating features, there is some interesting content on the site, such as the blog, member success stories, and recipes.
